Estate resident to take Mayor of London to court over lack of affordable housing scrutiny

A Custom House resident in temporary accommodation, and member of PEACH (People’s Empowerment Alliance of Custom House), is preparing to challenge the Mayor of London in the High Court. The case seeks permission for a judicial review of the Mayor's decision to allow Newham Council’s large-scale demolition plans to go ahead without properly checking whether social rent homes are truly being replaced or whether promises of “genuinely affordable housing” to temporary tenants are being honoured.
PEACH members are calling on housing campaigners to join them at the Royal Courts of Justice on Thursday 23rd October 2025. For details on timing, please follow PEACH on instagram: @peach_e16
